About the Course

This class focuses on teaching fundamental internet safety skills in a fun and approachable way, ensuring they navigate the online world confidently and securely.


Course Highlights:


Introduction to Internet Safety:

  • Understanding the basics of internet safety and why it’s important to stay safe online.


Creating Strong Passwords:

  • Engaging in activities to practice making passwords that are both memorable and safe.


Understanding Online Privacy:

  • Discussing the importance of keeping personal information private and secure.

  • Learning what information should never be shared online, including personal details and passwords.


Recognizing and Avoiding Online Scams:

  • Identifying common online scams and fraudulent activities.


Safe Social Media Use:

  • Exploring the basics of social media platforms and how to use them safely.

  • Discussing how to interact safely and respectfully with others online.


Dealing with Cyberbullying:

  • Understanding what cyberbullying is and how it can affect people.

  • Learning how to respond to and report cyberbullying, and seeking help from trusted adults.

  • Assessing our own behavior and making sure we are not being a cyberbully.


Respecting Online Etiquette:

  • Discussing the importance of online manners and respectful communication.

  • Engaging in role-playing activities to practice positive online interactions and conflict resolution.


Exploring Positive Online Activities:

  • Identifying safe and enjoyable online activities, such as educational games and creative projects.

  • Encouraging the use of the internet for learning, creativity, and positive social connections.


Creating an Online Safety Plan:

  • Developing a personal online safety plan, including guidelines for safe internet use and steps to take in case of problems.

  • Sharing the plan with parents or guardians to ensure a supportive online environment.


Practicing Digital Footprint Awareness:

  • Understanding what a digital footprint is and how online actions can leave a lasting impression.

  • Discussing ways to manage and protect one’s digital footprint by making safe and responsible choices.


Using Technology Responsibly:

  • Exploring the balance between screen time and other activities.

  • Learning about responsible technology use and the importance of offline activities and relationships.


Reflective Practices and Discussions:

  • Using guided prompts to assess understanding and reinforce key concepts.


By the end of this course, our Buds will have developed a strong foundation in internet safety, equipping them with the skills and confidence to explore the online world securely and responsibly. "Safe Surfing" is a guide to navigating the digital landscape with safety and awareness.
